Performance when opening log files

Martin Klinke
I am using the latest version of Log4View, but the performance is really bad. I am trying to load 15 log files (.log, log.1, ... .log.15) with a total size of 150 MB. It's taking ages and hanging at around 80-90% of the progress bar. The files are in XML layout and are loaded from a local SSD on a quite new ThinkPad running Windows 7 with 8GB of RAM. In fact, the files could not be opened yet while I am writing this post. So I assume that it's not working at all.
Any help will be appreciated.

AW: Performance when opening log files

Administrator

Hi Martin,

I just tried it on my machine: ThinkPad T520, 2 years old.

I read 15 XML formatted log files (100 MB each) and it took 160 seconds. Log4View read over 2.100.000 log messages in that time.

I think, this performance is OK.

Can you give me some numbers (load time and number of log messages)?

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Yours sincerely

Re: AW: Performance when opening log files

Hi Ulrich,

it's not working at all. It has been loading for over an hour now, but no progress. See for yourself: http://tinypic.com/r/2hge8nt/6

The files are 10 MB each. The most recent one is only around 8 MB.

There are around 23k messages in the log.1 file, the other counts are varying in a range from 18k.

Is there a log file of Log4View itself that I could check?

Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Martin

Hi Martin,

yes, there is a log file: "%AppData%\Log4View\Log4View.xlog".

You can send it to me and I will have a look.

Ulrich

Hi Ulrich,

I just sent the log file. I restarted log4view and the process seems to hang when reading the actual .log file.

Martin
